DAY 2: TOUBKAL REFUGE 3207M – MOUNT TOUBKAL PEAK 4167M – REFUGE – IMLIL

Early in the morning, we make our attempt at the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the screen and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. When you reach the summit you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking. From here there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. We will retrace our steps when we return down to the refuge have lunch and then head back towards Imlil. 9 to 10 hours walk. The height difference is 960m between the refuge and the Toubkal peak.

Absolutely incredible experience, couldn’t recommend it enough. Abdou was a great guide and will definitely be doing this climb again in the future. Make sure you bring good clothing and be prepared to walk more than 30km across 2 days

Our 2-day tour with Munim was amazing. We did the 2-day trek to the Mount Toubkal and it was amazing to have Munim as guide. He was so caring, friendly and always in a good mood. It was so enjoyable having him around and we always felt very safe and cared for. He is very experienced and he always showed us the best and safest way to reach our destination. We have such huge respect and appreciation for him for doing Ramadan and still being able to hike with us. You should definitely ask for him as guide if you book the tour.

Shoaib was our guide and he did a great job taking us up to the refuge and explaining things along the way. He was kind and patient. Our cook was also very friendly and made some very nice meals. The climb out is a bit steep for the first 20 minutes or so. Then from there you will walk across a relatively flat landscape heading to the entrance of the park. From there it’s a gradual trek up to the refuge with a stop at the shrine along the way. At the refuge we stayed in a tent and it was not too cold for the month of May. Unfortunately, I got sick during the night (not from the altitude) and while I attempted to summit at 3:30AM, I was not feeling well enough to complete the trek. The Atlas mountains are quite nice and I recommend this trek and company to anyone who is interested in these types of adventures.

It was an unreal experience! Our guide, Hicham, was incredible – he made sure everything was good, always matched our pace, was very knowledgable throughout the trip and overall ensured we had an amazing experience – couldn’t recommend him more! Also, Abdou, the driver who drove us from Marrakesh to Imli and back was also an amazing person – incredibly fun and so easy to chat to – felt so welcome, learnt a lot about the Moroccan culture, and overall had an incredible 2 days – can’t recommend this trip enough!

My wife and I just finished our trek with Said and what an experience. We are Floridians so we had our work cut out for us climbing this mountain. It was extremely difficult but we made it and we give so much credit to Said. He set the perfect pace and gave great motivation as we closed in on the summit. Hassan was our muleteer and chef – and he was awesome. The food was superb. Working with Karima and Dounia in preparation for the trip was an absolute pleasure. My wife’s birthday was the week of the trek and they made it very special. Such a great operation from start to finish. Highly recommend. And thank you again, Said for getting us up and down safely!

Every single aspect of this trip exceeded expectations and made for a truly memorable experience. We had a great group of people climbing with us and this was made better by our two guides (Mobarak & Zaid) who were great fun, set a perfect pace and also provided really useful information throughout. The trip was organised perfectly from being picked up in Marrakesh until being returned there after a fantastic 2 days, which included brilliant food being provided throughout. Cannot recommend this trip enough.

Absolutely beautiful and well guided by Abdou. He did a great job leading us and giving us time to enjoy the scenery. It was very well paced and the food was pretty good. The refuge has WiFi, blankets, pillows, and water and snacks to buy. It’s very cold and windy at the top in November with snow and ice. If you love hiking this is a must.

A fantastic trip led by Abderrahim! We highly recommend the 2 day trip starting in Imlil with overnights in a Berber village and a few different lodges before reaching the summit of Toubkal. Our guide Mohammed was very knowledgeable about the area and created an itinerary that catered to all our desires. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and we learned a lot from him. The food was great at all meals and the service was excellent throughout the trip.
